FAQ
A Bit About Me
The HVAC industry leaves an abundance of questions for home and business owners due to the average individual having no understanding of the operations and complexity of the engineering within this industry. Therefore, they are left with a great deal of confusion and curiosity. Here at Excel Houston A/C & Heating, top-notch customer service is our highest priority. So we would like to help ease your mind with a few answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.
-
What can I do before calling out a technician for service?Check the settings on your thermostat. For cooling, make sure the switch is in the COOL position or digitally set. For Heat make sure the switch is in the HEAT position or AUTO.
-
If I replace my outdoor unit, do I need to replace the indoor unit as well?"Yes, we recommend changing out both systems at the same time. Most likely they were installed one with the other. Therefore, they will reach their life span expectancy simultaneously. Plus, by purchasing an indoor and outdoor equipment concurrently, you will get a manufacturer warranty that covers your whole system.
-
How often do I need to change my air filters?Once a month is a good rule of thumb. May need to consider pet dander, dusting habits and occupant sensitivity to allergens when deciding how often to change your filters. If the filter is dirty, change it ASAP!
-
How often should I perform routine maintenance? You should regularly inspect the air conditioning and heating systems annually. Semi- annual would be great, before summer heat and before winter cold seasons.
-
What causes my AC unit to freeze up?It can be multiple reasons from blocked air flow, too low refrigerant charge, and/ or mechanical problems with one of the moving parts.
-
What can I do about indoor air quality? You can add a media air purifier to your system. They are thicker and denser to trap smaller particles than standard filters and they effectively remove more than 99.9% of pollutants and allergens from the air.
-
How do I find out if my AC unit is under warranty?First, confirm the brand of your unit from the nameplate. Normally located on the side of your outdoor unit and inside the front panel on your indoor unit (you will also get the model and serial number from the same place). Then you can look it up on the manufacturers website or call the local distributor.
These are just a few questions that arise more often than others. Please feel free to contact us here at Excel Houston A/C & Heating for any information or questions you may have. Always remember we’re just a quick phone call away and at your service.
